Tele2 will upgrade all of its base stations and central switching facilities. The work began this month and is to be completed by the end of 2013.
"This is the biggest investment in the network," Andrius Baranauskas, spokesman for Tele2, said.
Tele2 CEO Petras Masiulis said that the company will be able to offer several technologies - 2G, 3G and 4G - in one station. Tele2 expects that the new technologies, to be supplied by Nokia Siemens Networks, will help improve the quality of calls and data service.
The company expects to expand its coverage by 10-15 percent, particularly in the provinces.
Masiulis said that Tele2 plans to keep increasing the number of base stations after building 233 stations in 2011.

Tele2 set to revamp its Lithuanian mobile network
Tele2, one of Lithuania's biggest mobile phone service operators, unveiled plans to revamp its network technologies all over the country, but did not say how much it is investing in the upgrades.
