"The Visaginas nuclear power plant project remains open to Poland's participation, to the participation of Polish energy companies. We are talking about that and we'll talk about that with the Prime Minister (Donald Tusk)," Kubilius told the Lithuanian Radio on Tuesday.

"Poland plans to become a nuclear energy state (…) and our experience could be of interest and value for them, we suggest making use of it," the Lithuanian premier said.

Polish energy company PGE announced its decision last December to suspend its participation in the Visaginas nuclear power plant project. But officials do not discount the possibility that Warsaw will get back to the project.

Going to Warsaw on Wednesday, the Lithuanian prime minister said the visit would also focus on power and gas interconnections between Lithuania and Poland.

Talking about bilateral relations, which have been tense recently due to different attitudes to the national minority situation, Kubilius said his relations with his Polish counterpart Tusk have always been good. He also added that the visit would be a great opportunity to discuss sensitive issues in an informal environment.

"My relations with Prime Minister Tusk have never been so bad for them to need improving. It’s just a great opportunity to discuss key issues during a bilateral conversion, in a very informal way and not in some wider format. Such conversations are really important in order to find out what sometimes causes those emotions and misunderstanding," Kubilius said.
