In the talks that are launched in Brussels on Monday, the EU Council is represented by Darius Žilys, head of the Lithuanian Justice Ministry's International Law Department.

Consultations are held in response to media reports that the United States collected large amounts of information on private phone conversations and online activity and also spied on allies in Europe.

Lithuania is holding the rotating EU presidency in the second half of this year.
