A regulation of the European Parliament and the Council, adopted on June 26, will come into force on July 19, stipulating certain changes to requirements for third country nationals entering the Schengen Area.
According to the SBGS, there are two new requirements. First, third country nationals will need to have travel documents valid at least three months following the date of planned departure from the territory member states. In case of valid excuse, the requirement may not be applied.
And second, third country nationals will need to have travel documents issued over the course of the past decade.
22 EU members states, excluding Ireland, Romania, Bulgaria, the UK and Cyprus, as well as Norway, Iceland and Switzerland are members of the Schengen Area.
