Bomb threat disrupts work at Vilnius Airport

On Thursday morning, all flights from Vilnius International Airport were delayed due to extra security checks following bomb threats. No explosives were found, the police have identified the man who caused the alarm.

According Sandra Meškauskaitė, public relations department head at Vilnius Airport, emergency services received a call at 5:40 AM, informing there was a bomb in one of the aircrafts at the airport.

Seven flights were scheduled to take off from Vilnius before 7 AM, carrying about 700 passengers. Airlines decided to disembark the passengers and carry out extra security checks. No explosives were found.

Russian news portal lenta.ru reports that bomb threats concerned a plane flying from Vilnius to Moscow. Thorough checks were carried out in an Aeroflot aircraft from Vilnius, which landed in Moscow Sheremetyev Airport at 8:33 AM, and a Utair plane which landed in Vnukov Airport at 8:13 AM, local time. No explosives were found, according to lenta.ru.

The police in Vilnius say they have identified the person who made the bomb call. 42-year-old man, intoxicated with alcohol, has been detained. The police opened a preliminary investigation.
