Georgians and Lithuanians - most common violators of Lithuanian-Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards say that the number of Georgian citizens violating the country's border remains high.

The tendency observed last year - more Georgian than Lithuanian violators of the border were detained for the first time in the history of Lithuania's State Border Guard Service – continues into 2012, the service said.

On Thursday evening, a border guard dog helped detain two Georgians who attempted to enter Lithuania by unlawfully making their way from Belarus. The men were busted close to the highway Vilnius-Polotsk at about 8 p.m. local time. The two Georgian citizens – aged 29 and 30 – were taken to custody.

Lithuanian border guards have this year detained a total of 34 persons for violation of the Lithuanian border, mainly citizens of Georgia (16) and Lithuania (14).
