"The new procedure should not cause queues, because before it was introduced, when a bus arrived, all passengers had to get off it with their luggage for a check. From now own, they will also have to walk over disinfectant mats," Rokas Pukinskas of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service told BNS.
"It remains to be seen what effect this will have on the traffic, because we have just started doing it," he added.
According to information from Belarus' border service, at 7 AM, around 10-40 trucks and 10-60 passenger cars waited at border check points to cross into Lithuania.
Disinfection of vehicles at the border began in early July.
