After long and demanding work, the submarine was found by members of the Kaunas diving club some 38 meters under water. Its coordinates were established by Polish researchers after scans of the sea bottom. The submarine has been on the bottom of the Baltic Sea for over 70 years, Lietuvos Ryto television reports.

After the reports of the find, specialists are concerned that the submarine may attract thieves. The Department of Cultural Heritage has asked responsible institutions to protect the ship.

The submarine is believed to have gone down in 1941, killing 12 soldiers. Another 32 survived.
