Teachers are the most active strikers in Lithuania

Absolute majority of strikes staged in Lithuania over the past 12 years were held in education institutions, shows data published by the Statistics Department on Friday.

"We started collecting statistical information on strikes in 2000. Over the period, education institutions held 98.7 percent of all strikes involving 95 of all employees on strike," the department said.

Over the first nine months of 2012, education workers went on 193 strikes, including 187 warning strikes. A total of 5,558 employees participated in the strikes.

According to the press release, 3,080 work days were lost to strikes and warning strikes in 2012.

The most strike-intense period over the past 12 years was in 2008, when 7,961 education workers participated in 112 strikes.
