Ten lives lost on Lithuanian roads over past week

Ten people were killed in traffic accidents in Lithuania over the past week and 127 were injured, the Traffic Police Service said.

The highest number – four – were killed on Thursday. Two of the lives were taken in a crash in Kėdainiai district, central Lithuania, and two more motorcyclists were killed in Jonava and Šilutė district.

According to a press release, 108 accidents involving human injuries were reported between 27 July and 2 August.

The casualties include six drivers, two pedestrians, a passenger and a cyclist.

According to preliminary data, drunk drivers were involved in seven accidents, which left 12 persons injured.

By Thursday, a total of 151 people were killed in Lithuania from the beginning of 2012, indicating a drop in the death toll by five people year-on-year.
