Former Varėna Mayor appointed Lithuanian vice-minister of interior

Former Mayor of Lithuania's southern town of Varėna, Social Democrat Elvinas Jankevičius, has been appointed vice-minister of the interior in charge of EU affairs, the ministry has announced on Monday.

He served as Varėna Mayor until last Friday. Jankevičius previously worked at the property Department of Vilnius Municipality and as an adviser to the minister of health.

Zimantas Pacevičius, the former head of Lithuania's Special Investigation Service, was also appointed vice-minister of the interior. The Ministry of the Interior is headed by Alfonsas Dailis Barakauskas representing the ruling Order and Justice Party.
