Lithuania's next prime minister still hopes to adopt euro in 2014

Lithuania may adopt the euro in 2015, Prime Minister-designate Algirdas Butkevičius says, adding that accession to the euro zone together with Latvia in 2014 is also possible.

Presenting the program of 16th government at parliament on Tuesday, Butkevičius listed euro zone accession as one of the government's key priorities. The PM-designate said 2015 was a feasible date.

"But things can turn out that we may try to adopt the euro together with Latvia. Let the first quarter (of 2013) pass, and we'll give it a thought," he later told journalists.

Latvia seeks to join the euro zone in 2014.

Countries are allowed to adopt the euro after they meet Maastricht criteria.
