Lithuanian presidential adviser calls Labor Party's decision constitutionally dubious

The Lithuanian Seimas' decision to rehabilitate several members of the ruling Labor Party, who were removed from the party's parliamentary candidate list following a Constitutional Court's ruling, is of dubious constitutionality, says Mindaugas Lingė, an adviser to Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė.

"The Constitutional Court ruled that we faced gross violations of the election law, voter bribery, and it was ruled that it had influence on the election results. However, towards the end of the session, the Seimas adopted a resolution of dubious constitutionality," he told Žinių Radijas (News Radio).

At the end of the spring session, the Seimas amended the resolution on the final results of the recent general elections and re-included members of the Labor Party, Živilė Pinskuvienė, Jolanta Gaudutienė, Jonas Pinskus and Vytautas Gricius, into the party's candidate list. It means that the four would get into parliament if some existing Seimas members representing the Labor Party lost their parliamentary seats.
