Minsk withdraws from its readmission treaty with the EU – is this a threat to Lithuania?

Having announced back in June that Belarus will look to withdraw from its readmission treaty with the European Union, Alexander Lukashenko presented such a law to his parliament on Wednesday. That said, the treaty, which formally allowed the return to Belarus of persons who are not compliant with arrival, stay and residence conditions for the EU, was already essentially non-functioning with the beginning of the migrant crisis. Thus, this current step by Belarus is viewed only as a formality.
