Estonia's former prime minister receives Lithuanian decoration in Tallinn

Former Estonian Prime Minister and Defense Minister, incumbent chairman of the supervisory board of the Bank of Estonia Mart Laar was awarded a Lithuanian state decoration in Tallinn on Wednesday.

Lithuanian Ambassador to Estonia Neilas Tankevičius presented to Laar a Grand Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania, Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

One of the founders of the Popular Front of Estonia thanked for this important award and underlined that he has always felt a strong connection to Lithuania.

According to the statement, during the meeting with the Lithuanian ambassador, Laar expressed his full support for Lithuania's aspiration to join the eurozone and for the Lithuanian EU presidency. In the Estonian politician's words, Lithuania's experience will be of value for the Latvian EU presidency in 2015 and the Estonian presidency in 2018.
