"The Embassy of Georgia in Vilnius does not possess any information about the presence of the Georgian MP, Mr. Givi Targamadze, on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania," the embassy said in a statement in response to BNS inquiry.

Earlier this week, Russian news agency Interfax reported that Targamadze, a representative of the United National Movement party led by President Mikheil Saakashvili, was in Lithuania.

Targamadze told the Channel Nine Georgian television station that he did not plan to return to Tbilisi. He also said he would not request political asylum in Lithuania.

In February, Russia issued an arrest warrant for Targamadze, accusing him of plotting mass disturbances in Russia. Around 100,000 people took part in mass protests in Moscow last year.
