Lithuania hands note to Russia over air-space violation by military jet

A diplomatic note was handed to Russia's ambassador to Lithuania on Thursday over the violation of the Lithuanian air-space by a Russian military jet Su-27 a few days ago, the Foreign Ministry said.

According to the press release, the Russian fighter aircraft flew 12 kilometers into the Lithuanian territory on Tuesday evening.

"On 29 March, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius presented Russia's Ambassador to Lithuania Vladimir Chkhivadze with a protest note in connection to the violation of the Lithuanian air-space," reads the communiqué.

"At 7:17-7:19 PM (local time) on 27 March, a violation of the Lithuanian air-space was recorded – a Russian military jet Su-27 entered 12 kilometers into the Lithuanian territory at Vistytis, turned back and flew to the Russian Kaliningrad region," the ministry said.

According to the press release, the note draws attention to the fact and expresses a strict protest, and the ambassador is asked to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future.
