With discussions continuing on Lithuania’s dialogue with Belarus, an influential American analyst has declared that the “maximum strictness” Vilnius policy toward Minsk and Astravyets NPP was a mistake. However, Lithuanian political scientists are more cautious – while such a policy did not allow preparing a plan B, Minsk was also not demonstrating much goodwill. Currently, it is apparently crucial to not allow Belarus any room for doubt that Lithuania will definitely not buy electrical power generated in an unsafe power plant; supposedly our neighbours currently think that Vilnius is bluffing.
