"The Nobel Peace Prize once again confirms that the Union we joined in 2004 and the presidency of which we'll take over next year is meaningful and has a future," Ažubalissaid on Friday.
According to the minister, the EU is an enormous power that prompted economic and democratic reforms in Lithuania and other countries that sought membership in the 1990s and later.
"A Europe without war, a united Europe, European solidarity, economic support for member states and the achieved level of well-being have become natural things for all of us," the minister said.
This year, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the European Union. The union of 27 member states is in a deep crisis, yet is considered to have greatly contributed to peace in Europe, lasting for more than 50 years.
