Initiators of the resolution had proposed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs "to express protest against the persecution of Catholic organizations and violation of international legal acts."
"Under various pretexts, Russian authorities are trying to ruin Catholic communities financially. In Rostov Oblast only, the Catholic communities in Rostov on Don, Novocherkassk, Volgodonsk, and Azov have been inspected. The Novocherkassk Catholic community of 50 people in Rostov Oblast has been issued fines exceeding the community's revenues hundred-fold," the resolution reads.
35 lawmakers voted in favor of the resolution on Thursday, 17 were against and 36 members of the Seimas abstained. Later on, lawmakers voted as to whether amend the resolution or reject it, and 35 Seimas members voted for its amendment and 39 were in favor of rejecting it.
