Soviet-era Catholic Church Chronicles mark 40th anniversary

"You don't have to be a professional historian to understand: without the Chronicles of the Lithuanian Catholic Church, its values and the circle of people it brought together, the national revival would not have been the same," Degutienė said at the event, emphasizing that editors, distributors and other people who worked on the publication defended rights of Catholics and dignity and freedom of every individual. In her words, their work has been inscribed in the history of the Catholic church and Lithuania for good.

The chronicles is an underground publication that was published in Lithuania in 1972-1989. It covered persecution and discrimination of Catholics in Lithuania, lives of Catholics in other Soviet republics, also informing the global society about the true situation of the Church and believers in Lithuania.
