The Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office have asked Sweden to take over the investigation. Lithuania's Justice Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office told BNS on Tuesday they have not yet received any information from Sweden.
The Swedish daily said on its website that the probe would be started in Sweden but prosecutors refused to forecast the outcome of the investigation.
Tomas Mazetti, a staff member of the advertisement agency Studio Total who organized the July 2012 campaign, said he was not worried about possible penalties. In his opinion, a warning is the most he can face.
In January, Lithuania's Justice Ministry turned to Sweden with a request to take over the criminal investigation into the unlawful border crossing.
Lithuanian prosecutors have listed two pilots living in Sweden as suspects in the case. The Prosecutor General's Office has assured that Lithuanian authorities have done everything in their capacity and further criminal proceedings are only possible in Sweden.
The investigation revealed that the light airplane Jodel registered in Sweden violated international flight rules on July 4 2012 by entering Belarus from Lithuania without the necessary documents and border-crossing permits and later returned to Lithuania, reads the press release.
Belarus' authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko has repeatedly urged Lithuania to investigate the incident.
