At the turn of the 21st century, all pundits were predicting the dawn f the so-called "Asian Century". But even If no one today disputes the geopolitcal and economic importance of that continent leaded by China and India, the early blind optimism has been blunted by the 2008 economic cisis as well as worries of a graying ppulation, social unrest, cultural erosion and a whole array of overlooked problems. This series visits 11 Asian countries to find out what lessons the slower than expected journey to pre-eminence has taught its citizens and the challenges that lie ahead. In addition to learning about these macro-level issues, it gets to grips with what the "Asian Century" means to everyday people.

China, with a population of 1. 3 billion, would hardly be in need of a baby boom. However, Shanghai paints a starkly different picture. Ageing faster than Japan, a third of its people could be over 60 years ld in just 10 years time. Although already China's most populous city, Shanghai is in need of more babies. In a bid to solve the problem of acute labour shortages and strains on medical and welfare systems in the near future, there has been a gradual rollback of the one-child policy. Couples who meet the strict criteria are allowed t have a second child. But are they able t afford the various cots that come with having a second child? The rat race in Shanghai already begins at the age of a toddler. With MBA programs for juniors, young children are prematurely thrown into the adulthood. With a schedule as packed as an adult's, no room is left for a healthy childhood. Perish the thought of us falling into an angelical rehabiliatation of such a contestable and impugned dictator. It seemed impossible for us to deny the blood staining Bokassa's hands. But we have not produced an other audiovisual pamphlet. Our goal was to unveil the dictator's dark side and to reveal an astonishing face of the tyrant: sometimes generous and human, ofter hot-tempered and cruel, a ridiculous and whimsical megalomaniac indeed.

The "charro", term that comes from military charreteras (Epaulettes) that horse riders use, is one of Mexico´s national symbols. Their figure appeared towars XVII century under the influence of Andalusian immigration, central for movies, paintings and charreria Mexico´s national sport. Charreria takes this legendary figure, it´s origins, history and presets of charros, living on a country under constant Modernization.
04:00 NOMAD'S LAND - MEKONG
 
Continuing the theme of itinerancy, Christophe Cousin takes us on this new journey through two countries: Vietnam and Cambodia, on a river trip up the Mekong to meet the people who live by it. After a miraculous haul of ‘rice-fish’ in the South China Sea, where the river ends its own journey, he goes into the delta to meets some prawn fishermen, or ‘aquatic tramps’ as they are known locally. Christophe then boards a taxi-boat and goes to the floating market of Can Thô. After accompanying a family on its way to sell pineapples on the ‘nine-dragon river’, he arrives at the border and leaves the bustle of Vietnam behind him. In Cambodia, he returns to dry land and gets to know some unusual salesmen who have come from India to sell mosquito nets. Finally, our explorer ends his voyage in the gemstone mines of Ratanakiri.

Sergiu Popa is an acoustic quintet from Montreal, directed by accordionist Tzigane (Roma) Sergiu Popa. The group offers its own musical arrangements of Eastern Europe traditional and composed pieces; they incorporate and mix the rhythms, instruments and typical harmonies from Latin, Caribbean, Jazz and Oriental styles. Each piece played by the ensemble gives place to improvisation, especially for Sergiu Popa, a virtuoso whose brilliant works are often spontaneous. The Ensemble also presents a more semi-classical repertoire, including arranged folk songs from Russia and Moldova in collaboration with Moldavian vocalist Marina Negruta.

The African continent still contains numerous unexplored regions. Recently, one of these lost worlds was discovered in Cameroon, by a British researcher from the Kew Royal Botanical Gardens. At the foot of a volcano, Martin Cheek discovered a dense tropical forest, miraculously preserved and full of endemic plant species. In only a few expeditions, his team man-aged to inventory over two hundred previously unknown plant species, including orchids, types of coffee plants, and fig trees. Their discoveries attracted the attention of other NGO’s, including CRES, an organization dedicated to the preservation of endangered animal species.
